Top five reasons why people phone in work and fake being sick.

Top five reasons why people phone in work and fake being sick.

Most of us who have had a job, have phoned in work and pretended to be sick at some point or other. Although there are some people who seem to be disciplined enough to make it into work everyday, no matter what other issues they have going on in their life.
Those people, are to be avoided when you do phone in sick, especially if it is a fake sickness, because they are likely to have very little sympathy for you and possibly even tell you to come in work anyway.

Top five reasons why people call in work and fake being sick.

5.  They woke up in a general 'can't be bothered' type mood and feel they deserve to have the day off. We all  have those days, and some of us just physically can't pull ourselves out of bed. It is fairly easy to put on that sick sounded voice on those occasions, because they are already in a feeling sorry for themselves type mood.

4. There is a big event on, such as football or a concert etc. Most managers will be fully aware of these events already and will be expecting a few of the employees to phone in sick. Just don't be one of those who has tried to book the day off as a holiday, had the holiday refused and then pulls a sickie. You are more than likely going to be caught out, especially if there are others from your workplace who have successfully booked the day off and are attending the event. There is always somebody who will want to suck up to the boss and tell them where you really were.

3. Your car won't start and you can't be bothered to use public transport. Sometimes people will even use this as an excuse for not turning up at work, and won't even bother to create a lie about being sick. The problem is, that some managers won't except that as an excuse and will expect you to find an alternative way of getting to work.  A colleague of mine, struggled to get to work in some very heavy snow a few years back, and a 30 minute journey had already turned into a 2hour journey. When she phoned up to say that she wouldn't be coming in due to the snow, she was told that she would be expected to be at work in the next hour! No sympathy there.

2. They are being bullied by at least one other colleague, or their boss. This is one of those times when although they may not physically be sick, the thought of coming to work and being harassed and bullied, makes their life a misery and can cause high levels of stress. However, instead of trying to face the problem and discuss it with people at work, they let it get them down and prefer not to talk about it and fake being physically ill instead.

1. The number one reason, if you haven't already guessed, is that they have drank to much alcohol the night before, even though they knew it was a work night. Now they have a hangover and can't face work. However instead of saying they are sick because they drank too much and it is a self inflicted illness, they pretend to be sick for some other reason. These are the types of excuses that don't go down too well, especially if you get caught, as they have no one but themselves to blame for the way they are feeling. The likelihood of someone spotting if you were out drinking in a pub or a club, is fairly high too. There always seems to be someone around who you wish hadn't seen you.

So there you have it, the top five reasons why people phone in sick. These aren't the excuses people make either. That is a whole different story. These are simply reasons as to why people feel the need to fake a sickness and take a day off work.
